Talk with Mr. Rajeev Kulkarni, Chairman Formation Committee and President of SMTA India Chapter
The SMTA India Chapter completed one year of strong presence and activities in India in September 2014. In the last 15 months, the chapter had organised several technical meetings & workshops, and it has helped several engineers to upgrade their knowledge and skills in the Indian EMS industry.
SMTA is organizing two events in MARCH 2015 one is technical event on march 7th and one is fund raising event on march 15th. Mr. Rajeev Kulkarni, Chairman Formation Committee and President of SMTA India Chapter give more details on these events and presented his views on SMT industry and its opportunities.
As an international SMT organization, how do you look at Indian SMT industry from global standpoint. How do SMTA look at Indian SMT industry in year 2015 and coming 2 years?
SMT Indian industry is growing but it should have been grown mush faster rate as worldwide, the electronics manufacturing is growing and why not India. I think the present Govt strategy should help India overcome the hassles and hurdles and should improve the manufacturing activities and thus SMT Industry will grow. For 2015 it can catch up the momentum but very hard to say but the following years would definitely the growth years.
Will the share of the industry in overall national revenue is expected to increase or decrease? Or in other words what will be the impact of the industry on national economy perspective.
Well the share would increase and will have a positive impact on the national economy. The reason being there are few sectors where you need electronics manufacturing for example automotive, medical, aerospace and defense which are growing and thus the SMT industry will bring positive share for the national economy.
How do you think Indian companies will come up with competition with Chinese and imported market & machines? What are the steps required to be taken from Govt. to favor the industry.
Since Indian manufacturers have slowly learnt how to manufacture at the competitive rates and still maintaining the world class quality, i do not think there will be any threat for the chinese products. However as far as machines being imported, if you want to produce world class products at a case pace, then you need to import the machines from ester world. Under these circumstances, Govt should help and support the electronics manufacturing companies to have leverage on importing the machines from western world by giving them sufficient incentives.
Please share with us some of the events & activities done for Indian SMT industry.
We being SMTA India chapter have conducted more than 12 technical meetings and seminars within the last 18months since we formed our association in SEPT 2013. We continue to do and bring lot of wealth of knowledge on technology base, for the electronics manufacturing Industry. I am sure as we move forward there are many process engineers, production, design engineers will all get benefit of this and learn from these technical meetings. This will intern help them to implement at their work place and this would help them to make their organization a world class one!
